Mossel Bay Enforces Leash Law for Dogs in Public Spaces

The Mossel Bay Municipality has recently issued a reminder for dog owners to comply with local by-laws that require dogs to be leashed in public areas. This follows numerous complaints about unleashed dogs, prompting the municipality to take strict action to ensure public safety and harmony.

According to the by-law published in Provincial Gazette 6678, dogs must be kept on a leash and under the control of a responsible person in any public place or road. The regulation also states that any dog deemed vicious or dangerous must be both leashed and muzzled when in public. The by-law applies to all areas with public access, such as parks, sidewalks, roads, and open spaces.

The municipality encourages residents to take note of these rules, as violations may result in court action. For residents experiencing problems with dogs causing a nuisance, such as excessive barking, it is recommended to file a detailed affidavit with the municipality. Additionally, if a dog poses an immediate threat, victims can report the incident to the South African Police Service.

To report issues or complaints, contact the Mossel Bay Municipality at 044 606 5000. For more details on these regulations, visit the Mossel Bay Municipality’s website.

By respecting these regulations, we can all contribute to a safer and more enjoyable community for everyone!
